Precautions
Patients with clinically significant cardiovascular disease and/or prolonged QT intervals are not suitable for treatment with Serdolect. Serdolect is contraindicated in combination with drugs that are known to prolong the QT interval, such as thioridazine, quinidine, procainamide, sotalol, tricyclic and tetracyclic antidepressants. It is also contraindicated in patients with significant cardiac disease, plasma hypopotassemia, significant hepatic impairment and also in pregnancy and lactating women.
Other precautions:
- Mild/moderate hepatic dysfunction.
- Risk of significant electrolyte disturbances, e.g experiencing vomiting or diarrhoea, potassium depleting diuretic use.
- Parkinson's disease
- Elderly > 65 years
- Known poor metabolisers of CYP2D6.
- History of seizures
- Breast feeding
- Dopamine antagonists
- Some SSRIs: e.g fluoxetine, paroxetine (potent CYP2D6 inhibitors).
- Agents known to induce CYP isozymes : eg. rifampicin, carbamazepine, phenytoin, phenobarbital.
